Week 7: National Geographic Kids

Sticking with last week's theme of exploring nature in the library, today I am talking about National Geographic Kids.

There are so many amazing free resources that kids will love!

First,  games! I could see this being a fun way to end a lesson by using the SMART Board. They have all kinds of different games options and puzzles, and their version of MadLibs. Nothing requires personal information, so there shouldn't be any privacy concerns.
They have a ton of videos that are just right for elementary students. I know my older kids especially would love the Weird but True section!
And, of course, we're here for the animals! So many different features and fun ways to explore animals. This could be used as a whole group lesson, but this could also be a source you can direct students to if they are doing animal research.

Of course National Geographic isn't just about animals. They have many other resources as well, including science and history topics.

There are so many options that I think most librarians can find something fun to tie into a lesson, or even create a new lesson using these resources as a framework. I hope to use more of these tools next year!
